Craft Corner Deathmatch?!
While working on the christening gown this evening, I happened upon a show on the Style Network called "Craft Corner Deathmatch" (At least I think that’s the name of it). It looked like a spoof on the Iron Chef series on the Food Channel — ordinary crafters competing in timed matches to make something with surprise "ingredients". Anyway, what really interested me was that one of the judges was Melanie Falick, author of Weekend Knitting, which I just bought last week! It’s good to see knitters getting exposure on national TV.
I made a stupid mistake last week by taking the christening gown to work on during our knitting group at Borders. I was paying more attention to socializing than to what I was knitting and….yes, I goofed up. So, not panicking about it (yet), I just put it in my bag and figured I’d fix it at home later. Well, long story short, I couldn’t fix it. (No, I didn’t have a lifeline in it to save myself!) I had to rip out the entire piece, which was about 6 or 7 hours worth of work — aaargh! It almost killed me to watch those stitches come apart and get wound back onto the ball. So I’ve been feverishly working to get caught up, and tonight I finally caught up to and passed the point at which THE ERROR occurred. (I guess that’s why I feel justified in sitting here playing on the computer for a few minutes…). Anyway, the back of the gown is on the blocking board and it looks wonderful, so I keep it right in front of me as motivation to get the front done.
I just ordered a yarn swift and ball winder from JoAnn.com and I can’t wait to get them. Joan at Heritage Spinning said it would be a good investment, and I had a 40% coupon so I took the plunge. Soon I’ll be winding perfect little center-pull balls of all my yummy yarns!

Oh Kim, I’m so sorry you had rip out all that progress on the Christening Gown! I guess you learned that mindless knitting is what you need to bring to the group. My sister found that out the very first time her Stitch ‘n Bitch group met. She was working on a lace scarf and after several mistakes just put it down and chatted the rest of the time because she didn’t have any other knitting with her. Just remember you are creating a family heirloom. Maybe you should write a little story telling about the gown as it was being knit, to be kept with the gown as it is being passed down through the generations (as I’m sure it will be). Just think, a hundred years from now someone will still be admiring the beautiful work you did…all those stitches knit with love.

I need to go look through the cable guide and find that program you are talking about. First I need to figure out what channel is the Style Channel. I’m thinking it’s the one that has “What Not To Wear”, right? Ok….gotta go program it into the DVR. This I’ve got to see! Sounds like a fun show!
